Not all small round blue cells are equal - in vivo functional genomics screens uncover
novel biology in DLBCL and SCLC
Professor Christian Reinhardt is the chair of the Department of Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at University Hospital Essen. His lab is focused on the biology of lung cancer and B cell malignancies. He employs large scale pharmaco-genomic screens, in conjunction with computational approaches, to discover genotype-specific and actionable molecular vulnerabilities of cancer cells. He has further established a large collection of genetically engineered mouse models, which he employs for an in vivo validation of his observations. He also employs in vivo insertional mutagenesis screens, in order to identify potential mechanisms underlying the process of oncogenic transformation, as well as the occurrence of drug resistance. All this work is geared to toward a swift and rapid translation into the clinical arena.
Christian is the speaker of the SFB/CRC 1399 & 1530, and the National Network of Drug Discovery Research Centers of the German Cancer Aid (TACTIC, CAR-Factory, THUNDER). He has been awarded multiple prestigious prizes, among others the German Cancer Award in 2023.
